Standard Hood vs Gimbal vs HALO
Standard hood and gimbal mounts solve different installation problems. The best choice depends on carrier type, visibility, articulation and how the operator will maintain pile alignment during installation.
Not sure which mounting style fits your machine?
Standard Hood / Top-Ear Configuration
A standard hood uses a conventional top attachment point or linkage arrangement. It is simple, compact and commonly used where the carrier and mounting system provide the articulation needed for the job.
Gimbal Configuration
A gimbal allows the drive to articulate relative to the carrier mount, giving the operator more freedom to keep the drive and pile aligned while the machine boom/stick position changes.
Gimbal systems are especially useful where the machine geometry or working position makes alignment more difficult with a fixed hood arrangement.
Heavy-Duty Gimbal
Larger drive families may use heavier gimbal/linkage components to match the increased drive size and installation loads. Do not assume a gimbal intended for one drive class is suitable for another.
What HALO Does
HALO is an alignment aid available on compatible Digga drive configurations. It helps the operator monitor drive/pile orientation during installation.
HALO does not replace correct machine positioning, operator technique or project installation requirements. It is an aid to maintaining alignment.
Factory HALO vs Retrofit
Some drives can be ordered with HALO factory-installed. Retrofit kits are also available for specific drive/mount combinations, including compatible 9K-16K standard-hood drives and the MM-10K excavator gimbal configuration.
Which One Should You Choose?
- Standard hood: simpler setup where carrier articulation and visibility are adequate.
- Gimbal: more articulation where the operator needs additional freedom to maintain pile alignment.
- HALO: useful alignment feedback on compatible drive configurations.
Verify the Complete Mounting System
Confirm the drive, hood/gimbal, linkage, machine mount and carrier coupler as one assembly. The mounting system should be selected together with the drive rather than added as an afterthought.
